- Q: How to replace and drain the fuel filter in 4-cylinder and 5-cylinder engines on Audi 100?A:For 4-cylinder engines, the fuel filter is situated on the bulkhead at the rear of the engine compartment. Begin by loosening the clips and disconnecting the hoses from the right-hand front and left-hand rear of the filter before removing it. Next, loosen the clamp nut and lift out the fuel filter without disconnecting the remaining two hoses. Hold the fuel filter upright and position a container beneath it, then open the water drain screw to drain approximately 0.1 litre of fluid before tightening the drain screw. Locate the fuel filter in the clamp and tighten the retaining nut, then reconnect the hoses and tighten the clamps. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks. For 5-cylinder engines, the fuel filter is found on the left-hand side of the engine. Loosen the vent screw on top of the mounting bracket. Early models with engine codes AAT and ABP have a water drain valve on the bottom of the filter, while other engines feature a drain screw.
