Audi A6 Fuel Filter

The Fuel Filter of Audi A6 filters fuel to screen dirt particles from the injected components. This ensures constant and smooth flow of fuel to the engine. The Audi Fuel Filter is in the fuel line after an in-tank strainer. Pleated permeable media traps dirt, paint flakes, rust particles, and water before they overload the pump, clog injectors, or cause corrosion during distribution. A clean Fuel Filter gives trouble-free starting, idling that won't drop, and lots of acceleration. A dirty Fuel Filter will slow down flow and make for hard starting, stalling out, and sluggish power. That means the vehicle maker thinks replacement is due. Depending on the engine layout, the filter may be located under the vehicle, in the engine bay, or immediately at the carburetor or injector feed. It is usually secured by way of threaded fittings or quick-disconnect couplings. These may be applied in conjunction with O-ring seals to prevent leakage. The sealed inline canister or cartridge system is employed for gasoline. In the case of diesel units, a combination of filtration with a water separator is applied whereby heavier water can settle in an independent chamber. This protects the lubricated components and limits growth in the system. While many designs feature single-use cartridges that are exchanged for new units, some assemblies permit the removal of a spin-on canister or other replaceable element. Periodically refreshing the Audi A6 powertrain with clean fuel helps satisfy Audi performance requirements and prevents premature wear. All the driving safety features of every Audi A6 are backed up with an exclusive Fuel Filter that eliminates contaminants coming from service station storage tanks, transfer equipment, or even the car's own tank.

Audi A6 Fuel Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q:
What components are involved in replacing the fuel filter on Audi A6?
    A:
The illustration applies to all V6 and V8 engines for A6, S6 and allroad quattro vehicles. The fuel filter is located underneath the vehicle in front of the right rear wheel. First, lift the auto and support it safely. The specifications for the fuel filter assembly and arrangement of the V6 and V8 engines (except V8 biturbo) consist of a clamping screw which is to be tightened to 2 Nm, fuel supply to the engine, banjo bolt to be tightened to 23 Nm, sealing O-rings to be replaced, the fuel filter mounting bracket, the fuel line from the fuel pump in the tank, fuel line flange, other banjo bolt to be tightened to 23 Nm, other sealing O-rings to be replaced, and the fuel filter. Wrap a shop towel around the banjo fitting before loosening the fuel line bolt. To gain access to the fuel filter, counterhold it and loosen the banjo bolts. Next, remove the clamping screw holding the fuel filter bracket, and slide the filter out of the clamp. When installing the fuel filter, ensure the arrow on the filter shows the flow direction. Always use new sealing O-rings. Counterhold fuel filter when tightening banjo bolts. Upon finishing the repair, inspect fuel lines for leaks.
