Audi 100 Fuel Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the fuel filter in the engine compartment on Audi 100?
    A:
The Fuel Filter lies on the right side of the engine compartment and it is recommended that cloth rags be placed under it to wipe up any spilt fuel. Attach the filter, first take note of the fitted position and then loosen the union bolts of each end, but the hexagons of the filter are held with a spanner. Unscrew the union bolts and retrieve the washers. The second step is to loosen up the mounting clamp nuts and take out the filter of the engine compartment. Then place the new filter and make sure the clamp is fastened, the nuts should be tight. The filter should be fitted properly in the right direction, and the arrow of the flow direction should point towards the engine. Lastly, replace the sealing washers by attaching the inlet and outlet hose to the filter and tighten the union bolts.
  • Q: What precautions should be observed before working on the fuel filter components on Audi 100?
    A:
Observe the precautions before working on fuel system components. The fuel filter is mounted in the fuel supply line, on the right-hand side of the engine compartment, behind the air cleaner. Begin by depressurising the fuel system. Note the arrow on the top of the fuel filter indicating the direction of fuel flow; the new filter must be fitted with the arrow pointing in the same direction, although the design of the fuel unions ensures that the filter can only be fitted one way round. Place cloth rags beneath the fuel filter to catch any spilt fuel. Unscrew and remove the union bolt from the front of the filter, release the banjo union with the pipe, and recover the sealing washers. Next, unscrew the union nut and disconnect the fuel pipe from the rear of the filter. Unscrew the clamp and mounting bolts to remove the filter. Finally, fit the new fuel filter using a reversal of the removal procedure, ensuring to fit new sealing washers on either side of the banjo union before tightening the union bolt to the specified torque.
