In order to take off the tailgate, one has to first open the tailgate and unscrew the trim panel which is holding screws inside the grab handles then unclip the tailgate trim panel and may need to remove the lock trim cover. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, loosen the clips of the trim panel around the panel until all the clips are loosened and carefully loosen the upper trim by the screwdriver, and then loosen the clefts of the panel and re-move it. Then unattach the two trims on the tailgate upper edge and top upper edge, and begin at the outer ends and work to the center. Unscrew the retaining screw and unclip the plastic trim covers on the hinge brackets taking care not to crack the cover. Unmount the wiring connections on the back of the trim panel and unclamp the washer hose on the tailgate wiper motor. Connect the tie string to the two ends of the wiring and then remove the harness rubber sleeve on the tailgate to remove the wiring and position the string again. Trace the profile of all hinges on the tailgate using an appropriate marker pen and then, with the help of another person, take off the support struts. Unscrew and take the bolts that hold the hinges in place on the tailgate, retrieving any gaskets as necessary, and check the hinges to see whether they are worn or damaged and replace them accordingly. On the case of the support struts, hold the tailgate open, use a small flat-bladed screwdriver to push the locking clip out of the tailgate, and pull the gas support strut off its mounting on the ball joint of the tailgate, and repeat the process with the lower strut mounting. On refitting, follow the reversal of the above procedure, taking care to ensure that the hinges are positioned so they fit in the already drawn marks and have the retaining bolts tightened to the correct torque. Once the tailgate is closed, ensure that it is in line with the other panels and make minor adjustments by repositioning the tailgate where the hinge is. In case the tailgate buffers require fixing, find them and use the Allen key in loosening the screw until the center notched slide is free followed by tightening the screw once the buffer is adjusted to the right position. In the case of the support struts, make sure that they are firmly attached to the clips when refitting.
