In order to take the boot lid off, one has to first unscrew it and unscrew the battery negative connection. Next, loosen and pull out the retaining screws, very gently unclip the inner panel of trim and remove it off the boot lid. De-assemble the wiring connectors and the components of the electrical system, with the right ones labelled, and attach a piece of string to the end of the wiring to facilitate reconnection. Disassemble the wiring and remember how it was laid, and leave the string ready. In models that have central locking, remove the vacuum tube connector to the lock actuator hose. With the aid of an assistant, remove the support struts by lifting the retaining clips with a small, flat-bladed screwdriver and removing the support struts of their hinge upper balljoints. Trace the line of the hinges on the boot lid (to help follow in re-fitting), slack and unscrew the boot lid retaining nuts to detach the boot lid of the vehicle. Check the hinges - wear and free play - replace. To take away the support strut, open the boot lid and carefully use the small screw driver to lift the retaining straps, loosening the strut out of the hinge balljoints, so that the boot lid does not fall down, when both struts are being removed at the same time. To reinstall the boot lid, follow the reversal of the steps of removing, by positioning the hinges within the line of the marks made earlier and securing the retaining nuts to the required and prescribed torque. Once the boot lid is closed, ensure that it fits with the rest of the panels and do minor adjustments when necessary. In case the hinges are exposed by damage to the paintwork, it can be repaired to avoid corrosion. In the case of the support strut, make sure that it is well-clamped during re-fit.
