Support the boot lid or tailgate in its open position. On the boot lid, remove the stops from each hinge by driving out the pins, then open the boot lid to its limit. Extract the spring clips from the upper and lower ends of the strut, and pull the strut from the ballpins. If the strut is being discarded, it is advisable to release the gas pressure as a safety precaution. To do this, mount the strut in a vice, then use a hacksaw to cut through the strut cylinder to release the oil, ensuring to wrap the cylinder with a rag and wear protective goggles to prevent personal injury. Refitting is a reversal of removal.
