Front and rear bumpers are made of fascia or bumper cover and metal structural beam. In order to lift the front bumper cover, lift the vehicle, and hold it steady with jackstands, lift the splash shield underneath the engine. To remove the upper mounting fasteners, loosen the hood, remove the front part of the inner fender splash shield and pull it back. On both front wheelwells, loosen the fasteners attaching the bumper cover to both fenderwalls and un clip the rear end of the cover. Take the retaining tab at the bottom in the front side with the screwdriver in order to remove the lower grilles on both sides. In case of fog lights, they should be removed and the ambient temperature sensor disconnected should it have one. From underneath, unscrew two retaining bumper bolts, and push the bumper assembly out of the car, disconnecting any headlight washer hoses in the process. In case the bumper cover should be detached off the metal bumper, loosen catches and fasteners. To install, undo all the steps of removal, making sure that all fasteners are loose fitting before tightening. In the case of the rear bumper cover, the first step is to remove the fasteners that hold the liner together at the bottom of the rear. Fold up the wheelwell liner and undo the fasteners that are holding the bumper cover. Fold the floor covering aside in the trunk area, remove the side storage compartment and navigation tuner (where fitted) and remove the mounting nuts and support bracket bolts. On Avant models, the floor sill plate, and side trim panels are removable to gain access to the support bracket bolts. The bumper cover assembly should be carefully pulled out of the back of the car, one locking tab at a time. The fasteners can be removed to take out the bumper support brackets. To install, undo all the steps of removal, making sure that all fasteners are loose fitting before tightening.
