Audi 80 Bumper

The Audi 80 Bumper cushions the body of the car, as well as the essential safety components in cases of minor collisions, by absorbing and distributing crash energy. Over the decades Audi continued to improve its Bumpers, initially simple chrome-plated steel beams protruding on brackets, then later covered in plastic to look much cleaner, and finally in the 1970s, bulkier shapes were implemented to comply with the United States 5 mph regulations. Each stage balanced Audi style with the legal requirement of having front and rear shields that would reduce the cost of repairing bumped cars in the parking lot. Modern ones attach a plastic skin over a bar and a foam or honeycomb absorber on the inside, a design that reduces weight yet meets safety requirements. When replacing a Bumper, buyers might be presented with three typical material options which are lightweight but prone to rust, aluminum, carbon steel and stainless steel. The quality is important irrespective of the composition since the Bumper is legally mandatory in most states and fines may be imposed in case of absence. An Audi Bumper today is a part of the body rather than a projecting rail like the ones in previous years, but it serves the same purpose of protecting the lamps and sheet metal. The second generation 80 evolution is a gain for drivers without compromising the known Audi build integrity.

Audi 80 Bumper Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and refit a car bumper on Audi 80?
    A:
Lift up the front or rear of the car and place it on axle stands. Take off the foglight, where necessary. Unfasten the side bracket bumper ends through pressing the end downwards and pulling. In case of removing the front bumper, remove radiator grille. Unscrew and withdraw the mounting bolts and screws and then pull away the bumper. To refit, reverse the un-fitting. The self-adhesive seal should be put in place when installing a new rear bumper. Clearance with the front bumper and panel strip must be 10 mm + 1 mm (0.4 in + 0.04 in) and between the rear bumper and side panel must be 9 mm + 1 mm (0.35 in + 0.04 in) and changes made by repositioning of the mounting brackets.
