- Q: How to remove and install a heater core on Audi A4?A:Take off the engine covers, remove and disconnect the battery and empty the cooling system. Label the heater hoses and disconnect them at the heater core inlet and outlet on the engine side of the firewall; in the event that they are difficult to separate, the hose should be cut and new ones installed during installation. As much coolant as possible must be removed using a suction gun and the open tubes plugged. Disassemble the knee bolster, heater core cover fasteners and cover and remember to cover the carpet with plastic cover to avoid spillage of the coolant. Dislodge the heater core tube clamp fasteners, put a rag or small drain pan under the tubes and carefully unclamp the tubes off the core. After all the coolant is drained, remove the heater core in the housing. The opposite of removal is installation, and it is necessary to make sure that the heater core pipes and core have been installed with original insulating or sealing material. Fill up and bleed the cooling system and then get the engine going and ensure proper functioning.
- Q: How to remove and replace the Heater Core on Audi A6?A:Take the power seats all the way back and open the engine hood, pulling off the rubber molding at the rear bulkhead of the engine compartment. To remove the plenum chamber cover, pull it forwards, then disconnect the battery cables and remove the battery. In the 1998 model, take away the entire windscreen wiper assembly. Remove the insulating grommet in the plenum chamber and loosen or remove screw by 10 mm. To relieve pressure from the cooling system, loosen the cap on the coolant reservoir. Next, clamp off the heater core hoses with coolant hose pinch-off clamps and disconnect both hoses marking them for correct reattachment. To begin, place your bucket underneath the connection to the heater core. Using compressed air, blow out any coolant present. Finally, remove the rubber grommet. In the passenger compartment of the car, the steering column is tilted down; the trim that is under the instrument cluster is removed, then the fasteners of the steering column trim panel, plus the lower trim; then you will be able to reach the left side of the evaporator housing. To detach the heater core, you need to unscrew the screw and remove the bracket, loosen the clamps, and pull out the heater core slightly from the evaporator housing followed by disconnecting the coolant lines. In case the brake pedal mounting bracket interferes, strip off the dashboard end covers and back off the dashboard cross brace mounting fasteners to allow sufficient movement to remove the heater core. After installation, the reverse procedure will take place. Be sure to replace heater core hose clamps and O-rings for seals. Do not thread hose clamps against the evaporator housing. Fill and bleed the cooling system while checking for leaks.
