Audi A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
- Q: How to properly discharge and replace the A/C accumulator on Audi A4?A:Start by releasing the air conditioning system. Lift the car and put it on jackstands. Place radiator support panel under service. On the 2.0L model, delete the intercooler on the right. Unhook refrigerant lines of the A/C Accumulator and capped or blocked open lines immediately to avoid the entry of dirt or moisture. Unscrew the mounting bracket fasteners and take the A/C Accumulator out together with the mounting bracket. Incidentally undo the A/C Accumulator fastener and disassemble the A/C Accumulator and the bracket. In case of changing the A/C Accumulator, pour new refrigerant oil into the new unit and make sure that it is R-134a compatible. Install the bracket/A/C Accumulator and install the new A/C Accumulator in the bracket and tightly secure the fasteners. Connect the inlet and outlet lines and apply clean refrigerants oil on the new O-rings and tightly screw the refrigerant line fasteners. Lastly, evacuate and recharge the system and leak test by the shop that leaked it.
- Q: How can the A/C Accumulator be removed without discharging the refrigerant on Audi TT Quattro?A:The removal of the Receiver drier can only be carried out by discharging the refrigerant circuit according to the manufacturer's instructions using approved equipment and procedures. If the other engine version is employed, better access may potentially be gained by removing either the support brace between the left hand and right long-member or the connecting pipe between intercoolers. Initially, remove the securing bolt, then disconnect the refrigerant pipe, unfasten the bracket clamp nut, and finally take off the refrigerant pipe connection securing bolt. Remove the receiver drier downwards and out of the bracket ensuring you keep it sealed for as long as possible as it contains desiccant that will absorb moisture. The original receiver drier will be removed and it contains refrigerant oil, which equates to the amount placed back in the refrigerant system. If only a small amount of damage was done to the original receiver drier, adding the same quantity of refrigerant oil to the new part may suffice. Installation is performed in the reverse order, taking care to replace O-rings and tighten the refrigerant line securing bolts to the specified torque. Ultimately, Evacuate and Recharge the System.
