Take the power seats all the way back and open the engine hood, pulling off the rubber molding at the rear bulkhead of the engine compartment. To remove the plenum chamber cover, pull it forwards, then disconnect the battery cables and remove the battery. In the 1998 model, take away the entire windscreen wiper assembly. Remove the insulating grommet in the plenum chamber and loosen or remove screw by 10 mm. To relieve pressure from the cooling system, loosen the cap on the coolant reservoir. Next, clamp off the heater core hoses with coolant hose pinch-off clamps and disconnect both hoses marking them for correct reattachment. To begin, place your bucket underneath the connection to the heater core. Using compressed air, blow out any coolant present. Finally, remove the rubber grommet. In the passenger compartment of the car, the steering column is tilted down; the trim that is under the instrument cluster is removed, then the fasteners of the steering column trim panel, plus the lower trim; then you will be able to reach the left side of the evaporator housing. To detach the heater core, you need to unscrew the screw and remove the bracket, loosen the clamps, and pull out the heater core slightly from the evaporator housing followed by disconnecting the coolant lines. In case the brake pedal mounting bracket interferes, strip off the dashboard end covers and back off the dashboard cross brace mounting fasteners to allow sufficient movement to remove the heater core. After installation, the reverse procedure will take place. Be sure to replace heater core hose clamps and O-rings for seals. Do not thread hose clamps against the evaporator housing. Fill and bleed the cooling system while checking for leaks.
