- Q: How to remove the heater core on Audi 80?A:Disconnect the battery negative lead, then using a pair of pliers and a piece of card, carefully pull off the heater core control knobs. Remove the screws from the knob recesses and withdraw the surround panel, followed by removing the screws securing the heater core controls. Using a screwdriver, release the control cables from the heater core and disconnect the inner cables from the control levers. Next, remove the facia panel centre section, then take out the heater core controls, radio, and centre vent housing. Disconnect the facia wiring loom from the fusebox and relay board by first removing the fusebox. Unscrew the bolts from the centre air ducting and defrost ducting, then remove the complete facia panel. Drain the cooling system, loosen the clips, and disconnect the heater core hoses at the bulkhead in the engine compartment. Remove the left-hand plenum chamber cover from just below the windscreen in the engine compartment, then take out the heater core air inlet by unscrewing two screws and recovering the gasket. Unscrew the mounting nuts located on the centre of the bulkhead, pull down the control unit, and finally withdraw the heater core complete from inside the car.
