Audi 100 Valve Cover Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to properly remove and refit the valve cover for 4-cylinder diesel engines on Audi 100?
    A:
Loose and take out the engine top cover, then disconnect the crankcase breather hose, regulator valve to the camshaft cover, retrieving the grommet. Take the caps off, unscrew, and remove the three nuts that hold the camshaft cover, do not forget to retrieve the washers and seals and record the sequence in which they were removed. Raise the cover off the cylinder head, taking care that it does not stick, then proceed to push it off by working around the cover, without leverage, giving it a slight piece with a soft faced mallet. Take the camshaft cover gasket and remove it, examining it, and replacing it in case of any evidence of damage or deterioration. Wipe the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and camshaft cover with care leaving no trace of oil and old gasket without damaging the surfaces. Fit the camshaft cover by following the same steps in a reversed order making sure that the gasket is seated properly on the cylinder head and to ensure that it is not pushed out of place during the process of positioning the cover. Lastly, screw and attach the camshaft cover retaining nuts to the required tension.
