Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For four-cylinder models, remove the engine cover on 1.8L models, then take out the screws securing the wiring harness and disconnect all four connectors from the ignition coils, ensuring to depress the tabs to release them. To remove an ignition coil, grasp it firmly and pull it straight up, then apply a little silicone dielectric compound to the inside of the spark plug boot before installing the coil, with installation being the reverse of removal. For V6 models, if removing a coil from the left valve cover of a 3.0L model, first remove the left front engine compartment cover and the engine coolant reservoir; for a 3.2L model, remove the front and rear engine covers, and if working on the right valve cover, also remove the fresh air inlet duct and the air intake duct. Disconnect the electrical connectors from any components with harnesses obstructing access, then set the harnesses aside. Remove the fasteners securing the clips for the ignition coil harness, disconnect all three electrical connectors from the coils, and ensure all three connectors are disconnected to pull the harness back far enough for the coil to clear the connector. To remove an ignition coil, grasp it firmly and pull it straight up, then apply a little silicone dielectric compound to the inside of the spark plug boot before installing the coil.
