- Q: How to remove the Center Console on Audi A3?A:To remove the console, first switch off the ignition. Unclip the ashtray from the rear of the console and then unclip the rear compartment/switch panel from below the ashtray. For models with a center armrest, undo the mounting bolts from inside the rear of the console and remove the armrest. Next, undo the two retaining bolts from inside the rear of the console. Release the gear/selector lever gaiter from the console and unclip the trim panel around the gaiter. Using a lever, carefully unclip and remove the trim panel from in front of the ashtray. Undo the two retaining screws from the front ashtray and withdraw it from the console, disconnecting the wiring connector as it is removed. To remove the two grab handles from each side of the console, undo the retaining bolts at the rear, the two bolts up through to the center facia panel, and the two bolts at the front of the grab handles. Using a lever, carefully unclip the trim panel from below the handbrake. Remove the lining mat from the small oddments recess, then unclip the cigarette lighter and its trim from the console, disconnecting the wiring connector. Unclip the plastic covers and undo the retaining screws from each side of the console at the front edges. Undo the screws from inside the gear lever recess and lift the rear of the console upwards, withdrawing it over the handbrake lever and out from the vehicle, disconnecting the wiring as applicable. For refitting, reverse the removal process, ensuring all screws and clips are secure to prevent rattles, starting with tightening the screws securing the center console to the facia and then working back to the rear of the console.
- Q: How to remove and reinstall the center console on Audi A4?A:Carefully pry out the rear ashtray and disconnect the electrical connectors for the door lock switch and seat heater switch if equipped. Remove the rear switch mount by pressing both corner tabs towards the sides, rotating the mount down and out, and disconnecting the electrical connectors. From the rear of the console, remove the center armrest mounting nut and lift the armrest out; if equipped with a center armrest phone, depress the tab on the connector and separate the harness. Remove the parking brake trim cover from the center console, starting at the front and working towards the back, using a trim tool to pry it out. Pry up the shift cover from the sides and remove the cover and boot, working from the front. Carefully pry the button trim away from the top of the console and remove it using a small screwdriver. Remove the radio assembly and the air conditioning control assembly. Remove the plastic access plugs from both lower edges at the front of the console and take out the fasteners. With the handbrake lever applied, depress the retaining clip and release it at the base of the parking brake grip, then pull the lever grip from the lever. Remove the parking brake carrier fasteners and carrier. For vehicles with automatic transmissions, move the shift selector all the way to the back. Remove the front ashtray fasteners and ashtray, disconnecting the electrical connector once the ashtray is removed. Disconnect the center console lighter by depressing the two corner tabs with a small screwdriver, then remove the assembly and disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the fasteners at the top front and sides of the console, as well as the rear mounting nuts. Partially withdraw the console, disconnect the navigation control head wiring, and then remove the console by lifting it from the rear over the brake lever. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that the ashtray/cigar lighter and navigation control head wiring are reconnected, and that the center armrest phone connector is installed correctly, with the clips at the front lower edges of the console engaging with the instrument panel support framework.
