- Q: How to remove and install the front wheel bearing and wheel hub assembly on Audi A4?A:The driveaxle/hub bolt should first be loosened in order to remove the driveaxle and hub assembly. Next, loosen the wheel bolts and lift the vehicle using jackstands and make sure the vehicle is well supported on jackstands, followed by removing the wheel. The second step is to remove the brake caliper, caliper mounting bracket, and brake disc, making sure not to drop the brake caliper but to hold it with the use of wire or rope. Take off the shield by removing the shield mounting bolts and lose the upper Control Arms by removing them by unscrewing the Steering Knuckle. Gently insert the knuckle assembly and push the driveaxle out of the hub, it may be necessary to give the CV joint a stroke with a soft-faced hammer out of the hub or a puller may be needed, should the knuckle assembly not push free. Prop the driveaxle, do not overextend the inner CV joint. Lift off the mounting bolts of the hub/bearing assembly at the back of the steering knuckle and lift out the hub/bearing assembly. When it comes to bearing replacement, it is a job that needs professional skills and special tools that may not be available among some people and it is therefore good to trust a professional mechanic.
