There are protective covers on the lower control arms and tie-rods which can be taken off when needed. The first step is to loosen the bolts connecting the rear wheels, elevate the rear part of the vehicle and place it firmly on jackstands after blocking the front wheels to prevent falling. Take the back wheel off and in AWD models, disassemble the rear final drive drive shaft and attach it. Take out the coil spring and then hold the subframe on the same side as the removal of the upper arm. Slack the subframe mounting bolts and carefully lower the subframe to expose the upper arm-to-subframe fasteners without damaging any of the parts. Mark the relationship of the cam adjuster on the upper control arm-to-knuckle fasteners, remove and then disconnect the upper control arm to the subframe. Check the bushings: are they damaged and then go to an automotive machine shop. Installation is done in the same order with the new fasteners, making sure that the upper control arm is in the right place and aligning the cam adjuster with proper adjustment of all the fasteners in line with the correct torque. Install the wheel and lower the vehicle after which the wheel bolts should be tightened and the rear wheel alignment verified. To perform the lower control arm, take off any stone guard fasteners and guards, loosen the harness and parking brake cable of the ABS wheel speed sensor and take off the vehicle level sensor linkage (where provided). Unscrew the stabilizer bar connection and take off the rear coil spring. In AWD, disconnect the driveaxle and clamp it, disconnect the shock absorber lower mounting screws and remove the parking brake cable. In the 2WD models, repeat the same procedure with the left control arm. Indicate the relation of the cam adjuster to the lower control arm, and remove the requisite fasteners and the arm of the vehicle. Check the bushings and re-fit as necessary, and reassemble in the same way, only this time with new quickeners, bleed the braking system, adjust the marks and tighten all the fasteners when the suspension has been raised to the normal ride height. Last but not least, verify and readjust the rear wheel alignment. In the case of the tie-rod, take off the coil spring and lower control arm rear mounting fasteners and loosen the tie-rod. Check the bushings; in case they are in bad condition, replace the tie-rod. Install back in reverse with new fasteners and tighten after lifting the suspension and then verify the rear wheel alignment.
