With the 1.8L engine, the first step will be to remove the
Oil Pan, then loosen and remove the baffle plate in the bottom of the crankcase. The next step is to take off the bolt that holds the drive sprocket into the oil pump and place the chain and sprocket to the side. Unscrew the mounting bolts of the oil pump and pull off the pump out of the block. In order to check, unscrew the two bolts and remove the cover which contains the pressure relief valve. Wipe the components using the solvent and check the wear or breakage of parts; in case of a break extensive part of the oil pump is recommended to be replaced. To install, clean the contact face, fit the cover to the oil pump and screw the bolts to the correct torque. Get the pump primed with oil by pouring it into the pick-up tube aperture as the driveshaft is turned. Wipe the oil pump and block, fit the oil pump, fit the mounting bolts and tighten them to desired torque, making sure that the dowel pins are in their right place. Install a new O-ring seal in the end of the pick-up tube, place the tube in the oil pump, connect the bolts, and screw them to the required torque. Install the rest of the parts in the reverse order, pour the oil, start the engine, and verify the presence of oil pressure and leakages, and repeat the engine oil level verification. In the case of 2.0L engine turn the engine to TDC compression of cylinder no. 1, undo the fasteners attaching the chain guard and remove the guard. As the crankshaft is being secured, loosen the pump assembly sprocket bolt, and press the chain tensioner with a taped screwdriver until a small Allen wrench or drill bit can be slipped into it. Disassemble the oil pump sprocket, the oil baffle, and removal of the assembly mounting bolts with the removal being done at the ends to the middle. Should wear be observed then the entire oil pump/balance shaft assembly should be changed. To install, use the opposite of the removal process, substituting the balance shaft assembly mounting bolts with others and ensuring that the assembly is installed using a new gasket and O-ring seal. Lastly pour oil, turn on the engine, observe oil pressure and leakage and re observe the level of engine oil.
