Take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir and drain most of the fluid content, say 2/3, then put the cap back on, and make sure the spilled fluid is washed off as soon as possible by clean cold water to prevent the paint being ruined. Relax the front wheel mounting bolts, lift the front part of the car and pin it down on jackstands and block the wheels at the other end. Take out the wheels and clean the caliper and disc with a thoroughly moistened one with brake system cleaner and leave it to dry making sure to place a drain pan below to collect the cleaner. On model that has FNR-G 60 front brakes, press the piston back into the bore to help remove the caliper, unclip the pad retaining spring, remove the protective end caps to reveal the caliper guide pins, disconnect the brake pad wear indicator electrical connector, unscrew the caliper guide pins, and lift the caliper out of the mounting bracket, with support of the wire. On models that have FN3 front brakes, repeat the steps of unclipsing the pad retaining spring, disconnecting the wear indicator, removing the end caps, unscrewing the guide pins and supporting the caliper. To install models with C54 front brakes, disconnect wear indicator, unscrewing mounting bolts, but not rotating the guide pins, remove caliper and make sure that the heat shield plate is clipped into the piston. Brembo front brakes The procedure to change the pads consists of disconnecting the wear indicator, driving the pins holding the brake pad out of the bore and pushing the pistons back in the bore, one pad at a time. Check the brake disc and make sure the guide pins move smoothly and lubricate them with grease or oil and examine the dust seal and piston to ascertain that they are not damaged or leaking. The caliper piston should be pushed back into the cylinder with a tool or C-clamp, a brake bleeding kit should be attached, and the bleed screw should be opened with the piston being retracted to release excess fluid in order to install new pads. In case of FNR-G 60 models, cut the inner pad and the outer pad to fit inside the piston and inside the housing relief, lubricate the guide pins, fix them and connect the wear indicator. In case of FN3 models, cut the inner pad to the piston, attach the outer pad to the mounting bracket, lubricate the guide pins and attach the end caps and pad retaining spring. In case of C54 models, fit new pads with appropriate orientation, lay caliper on pads, fit new mounting bolts and reconnect wear indicator. In the case of Brembo models, the new pads should be installed with proper orientation, the retaining springs to be installed and the retaining pins to be driven in. Lastly, press the brake pedal several times to make sure that the pads and disc are contacting, repeat the same procedure with the other caliper, and install the wheels and bolts, lower the vehicle, tighten the bolts, inspect the level of brake fluid, and test the brakes.
