Regular changing of the oil and filter are to be done to maintain the engine and the change of oil in between the given mileage or at least once in a year is recommended because old oil may be contaminated and wear out the parts. Prepare all the tools and materials you will need beforehand, be sure you have clean rags and newspapers to use to clean up spills. It is preferable to operate with warm oil with improved drainage and care precautions of a hot engine component and gloves against skin irritants. Lift up the car with care and maintain its level position and lift off the engine compartment undershield. Loose the drain plug, place a container under it, and pull the plug all the way out to drain out the old oil, placing another container when necessary. Once emptied, rinse the drain plug and also install the sealing washer on it before refitting and tightening the plug. In case of changing the oil filter, put the container below the filter, loosen the filter and pour the oil into the container. Wipe the sealing section of the engine and make sure the old sealing rubber ring has been removed in case it is stuck there. Rub clean engine oil on the sealing ring of the new filter and screw in by hand. Take away all the old oil and tools, re-fit the undershield and lower the vehicle. Take out the dipstick and oil filler cover and fill the engine with the right type of oil by the use of a funnel to reduce spillage and after that, wait until the oil settles before checking the level. Turn the engine on and idle, inspecting the leaks around the oil filter and drain plug, and watch the oil pressure warning light. After several minutes turn the engine off, retest the level of the oil and pour it in case it is low. Do not dispose used oil carelessly.
