The locking hook can be removed by first opening the hood latch and repositioning the cable end fitting either by repositioning the adjustment clip or sliding the clamp to get the maximum freeplay. Then release the locating sleeves on the hook and release cable. Insert the crossmember locking buttons that hold the retaining bolts of the hood latch, loosen the bolts that hold the upper mountings of the rad to the crossmember, then remove the bolts, thereby releasing the crossmember, and reposition it clear of the radiator. The access to the locking hooks can also be restricted in some models, and can be enhanced by dismounting the radiator, but in some situations, this is not needed because all that is required is to free the radiator up, without unloading the cooling system. Gently unscrew the locking hook to its guides so that it does not scratch the paintwork and loosen it out of the body. To refit, position the locking hook back in place making sure that it is properly placed in its guides and make sure that it works manually. Install the radiator (now removed) and find the crossmember back in place again with the retaining bolts, and install them in the pattern of the marks previously made and tightened. Connect the release cable again and make sure the locating sleeves are firmly in place in the locking hooks. In clamp-type adjuster models, the clamp should be positioned so as to eliminate all cable freeplay whilst ensuring that the locking hooks are against their stops and that the adjustment screw is firmly screwed as well as the end of the inner cable is bent to make sure that the clamp does not slide off. To connect the model into a model with an adjustment clip, use the cable to pull the freeplay out of the model without relocating the locking hooks, keep the cable in position and then install the adjustment clip into the last open groove on the cable end connector. Once the cable is fixed, make an assistant use the release handle to make sure that the locking hooks slide freely to their positions; in case everything is correct, lubricate the hooks and hood latch pins using multi-purpose grease and close the hood latch.
