- Q: What precautions should be taken when disconnecting the A/C Compressor and A/C Condenser parts of the air conditioner refrigeration circuit on Audi 4000?A:Never disconnect any part of the air conditioner refrigeration circuit unless the system has been discharged by your Audi dealer or a qualified refrigeration engineer. If the compressor or condenser obstructs other mechanical operations such as engine removal, it is permissible to unbolt their mountings and move them to the limit of their flexible hose deflection, but do not disconnect the hoses. If there is still insufficient room to carry out the required work, the system must be discharged before disconnecting and removing the assemblies. The system will need to be recharged upon completion. Regularly check the condenser for clogging with flies or dirt, and clean the hose with water or compressed air. Additionally, regularly check the tension of the compressor drive belt, which should have a deflection of about 10 mm (0.39 in) at the center point of its longest run. If adjustment is necessary, increase the quantity of spacers between the crankshaft pulley halves to reduce tension or decrease them to increase tension. Access to the pulley is gained by removing the intake grille, and the spacers must be positioned on either side of the inner pulley half as needed.
- Q: How to discharge and replace the A/C condenser on Audi A4?A:Start with emptying the A/C Condenser. The second step is to hoist the vehicle and place it in jackstands. Take off the splash shield under the engine (when it is there). Removal of the front bumper assembly. Disconnect the power steering oil cooler line at the radiator support panel and put it aside, disconnecting the A/C Condenser pressure switch and ambient temperature sensor. Provided it is equipped, displace the cooling fan control module by extracting the fastener of mount. Unplug the A/C Condenser pressure switch and ambient temperature sensor with the driver side of the radiator, being careful to push the harness aside. Loosen the condenser fasteners so as to detach the condenser and the radiator. To install, follow the instructions in the reverse direction when removing, with new O-rings on fittings of A/C systems. In case of replacement of the condenser, pour in fresh refrigerant oil to the replacement unit, and this must be R-134a compatible. Lastly, evacuate, recharge, and leak test the system at the shop which emptied it.
