Is the Steering Column only available as a complete unit and not serviceable on Audi A6?

We don't repair the steering column as it is supplied as a complete unit only. Start by taking out the airbag unit and then the steering wheel. Vehicles with electronic stabilization program (ESP) vehicle have to remove steering angle sensor. Next, remove the stalk switch on the steering column and disconnect the tilt control in the steering column. Disconnect the cable ties and connectors at the steering column. In the case of vehicles with automatic transmission, the locking cable should be released and the selector lever placed in PARK position. Activate the ignition by switching it ON, slightly raising the locking lever, and drawing the shift interlock cable. At the bottom of the steering column, take out the nut on the universal joint for the steering shaft, turn the eccentric pinch bolt in a clockwise manner to relieve tension, then take out the bolt. Remove the Allen bolts and take out the steering column after swinging the universal joint to the side while keeping an eye on damage. To install, connect the steering column to the dashboard brace using four Allen bolts, release the steering column adjustment, and attach the steering shaft universal joint to the steering rack pinion gear. Insert the pinch bolt in the lower position and pretension in counterclockwise, then insert the nut and tighten to 30 Nm. To insert the shift interlock cable on vehicles with an automatic transmission, turn the ignition key to the ON position, select PARK on the selector lever and insert the shift interlock cable into the ignition lock housing until the locking bracket locks into place. To test the shift interlock operation, switch the ignition key to ON while stepping on the brake pedal. Then attempt to shift from P, which should not snag when the button on the shift lever is pushed. Finally, the ignition key must not be removable in any driving position except for P. Place the shift lever in P such that it is possible to turn the ignition key OFF without binding. Upon removal of the ignition key, it must not be possible to move the shift lever from P. Continue by installing and adjusting the steering column stalk trim for even gaps. Then tighten the socket head bolts for the steering column. In case of vehicles with electric steering column adjustment, tighten the tolerance adjusting screw. Next, connect the wiring of servo motors. Finally, use a cable tie to tie the wires to the steering column. Complete the installation of the steering column trim and wheel.
