A dirty air filter will lead to reduced performance and increased fuel consumption, necessitating a new filter every 20,000 miles (30,000 km) and cleaning every twelve months or more frequently in dusty conditions. For carburettor models, release the spring clips securing the air filter lid and remove it. Cover the carburettor entry port to prevent dirt from entering while lifting out the filter, then wipe the inside of the air filter with a moist rag to eliminate dust and dirt before removing the cover from the entry port. If cleaning the filter, do so away from the vehicle by tapping it to dislodge dust and dirt, using a soft brush if necessary, or blowing air at very low pressure from the inside out. Refit the filter, clean the cover, replace it, and secure it by aligning the two arrows and clipping it down. For fuel injection models, release the spring clips securing the air filter cover and separate it from the air flow meter. Remove and clean the filter if applicable, wipe the inside of the cover clean, then reattach the filter and secure the cover by pressing the clips.
