Audi 100 Steering Wheel

The Audi 100 Steering Wheel placed in the center of all driver inputs gives direct and clear control of the direction of the car at very low effort and a high confidence level. Designed to convert even the small turn of the Steering Wheel, the driver uses it and the motion is transferred either to a rack and pinion or to a recirculating ball gear, which, in later editions, received hydraulic assistance and, in the new models, electric motors that reduce the work required when trying to park. Previous models remained strictly mechanical, but both of them retained a durable design to suit long distances and bad roads. No matter the generation, the Steering Wheel is a wear part and vibration, stiffness, or squeaks are indicators that it must not be left unchanged and that the part should be replaced. There has been an evolution of styling from light two spoke rims to heavier three spoke types with formed thumb rests and room to fit auxiliary switches, with the diameters remaining small enough to be read on the 100 cabin gauges. The weightiness of the wheel is a point that every Audi owner is keen on, and it has been a constant of Audi designers to improve the rim thickness and material feel to the tastes of the changing preferences, without compromising the crisp and confident feel that is required of an Audi steering system that has made Audi sedans interesting to drive. This is one of the highly important Steering Wheel connections that can be kept between hands and road to guarantee the real Audi response over a mile.

Audi 100 Steering Wheel Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and refit a steering wheel on Audi 100?
    A:
The driver side airbag models would be stamped with AIRBAG in the steering wheel pad. To use a model that does not have an airbag, the first thing to do is to position the front wheels in the straight-ahead position and lock the steering. Cautiously unclip the steering wheel center pad, one top and then bottom and unclip it. Secondly, loosen and loosen the steering wheel retaining nut, mark steering wheel and steering column shaft relative to each other and remove steering wheel using column splines. Refitting This is a procedure to reverse the processes of removal, so that the indicator switch stem should be in the center position to avoid damaging when reinstalled, aligning the marks made during removal, and tightening the retaining nut to the appropriate torque. In the case of models where there is an airbag, the airbag unit should be removed first and then the front wheels are to be placed directly ahead with the steering lock. The upper shroud can be unclipped and detached off the steering column by loosening and unscrewing the two retaining screws. Detach the airbag contact unit wiring connector, remove the steering wheel retaining nut and loosen it before recording the position of the steering wheel and steering column shaft relative to each other. Gently remove the steering wheel off the column splines without causing any damage to the contact unit wiring and also be careful not to turn the contact unit when the steering wheel is off. Refitting is undertaken in the reverse order, which ends with the re-fitting of the air bag unit.
