Take off the steering gear, and, laying it on a bench, wipe off all the dirt on the exterior of the assembly. Unscrew the union bolts to loosen the hydraulic pipes that join the pinion housing to the steering gear main body, making sure to reclaim and dispose of the sealing washers because new ones are needed to fit. Insert the retaining clips and remove the rack and pinion boot off the steering gear passenger side. Cover any jagged ends of the steering gear with tape to avoid damaging the new boot, and then very cautiously roll the boot over and down the body of the steering gear. Make sure that the boot fits in the right spot, and it is not twisted around, and also make sure that any line painted on the boot is in a straight line and in line with the steering gear body; in case of a lack of the line, take the moulding line to the left. Attach the new retaining clips to the boot, attaching each clip by pressing up its raised section; a special tool is not needed, side cutters may be used to press the clips up in an attempt to avoid cutting through them. Lastly, re-attach the steering gear.
