Removing the steering lock housing requires a special socket to unscrew the retaining bolt because a standard Torx socket can not be used because the steering lock has a security Torx bolt. First remove and loosen the bolt holding the steering lock/ignition switch housing to the column with special Torx socket. The next step is to unscrew the nuts and washers, remove the column mounting bolts and dismount the column into the mounting bracket then take the column off the mounting bracket and then detach the lock housing and the steering column. In the case of automatic transmission models, the cover should be unclipped and the selector lever locking cable should be disconnected in order to remove the lock housing. The lock cylinder should be renewed by drilling a lock casting 3 mm to reach the lock cylinder detent plunger, sliding the key, pushing the plunger and removing the cylinder. Install the new lock cylinder and make sure that it is firmly held. The lock cylinder is a complicated renewal that can perhaps be left to an Audi/VAG dealer as it would not harm the lock assembly. In the case of the ignition switch, the retaining screws will be removed and the switch assembly will be removed at the back of the lock. Removing and it is refitting, in the case of automatic transmission, reconnect the cover and the locking cable of the lever in the selectors. Install the steering lock housing assembly on the column, position it in the mounting bracket and reconnect the mounting bolts and washers. Install the steering lock housing retaining bolt to the desired torque, position the ignition switch in the center, and screw its mounting bolts. Then reconnect the wiring to the ignition switch, be sure to properly route the wiring, and reattach the storage compartment panel and instrument panel, and
Steering Wheel. Lastly, make sure that the ignition switch fits in its place, use locking compound on the screws that hold the switch, and firmly work them back into the lock assembly.
