2015 Audi A3 Oil Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove the oil pump from the sump without taking off the timing cover on 2015 Audi A3?
A: In order to remove the sump, the timing cover will not need to be removed unless the timing chain is being replaced as well. This should be done by first taking the plastic cover off of the oil pump and then have the sprocket in place but leave the retaining bolt loosened. Squeeze the chain tensioner open with a screwdriver, loosen the bolt, and remove the sprocket of the oil pump and chain, taking note of the fact that there is only one place where the sprocket fits in the oil pump. Take out the mounting bolts and pull out the oil pump in the dowels in the block of the cylinder. To those who require to do away with the oil pump chain and tensioner, the timing cover should be removed. Check the tooth on the sprocket and after cleaning all parts, inspect the oil pump drive chain as to excessive wear. When the engine is of high mileage renewing chain and sprockets is recommended but always remember to renew crankshaft pulley bolt every time it is taken off. In refitting, in case the oil pump drive chain, tensioner has been removed, begin by finding the oil pump on the dowel posts on the cylinder block, fit the mounting bolts and tighten them to the required amount. Install using the chain, install pushing the tensioner out with a screwdriver, install the sprocket on the oil pump, and screw the retaining bolt to the required torque and angle keeping the sprocket still. Lastly, refit the plastic cover and the sump.
