1994 Audi 100 Oil Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove and reassemble the oil pump on the timing belt and crankshaft sprocket on 1994 Audi 100?
A: The timing belt and crankshaft sprocket can be removed by first removing the sump. In the case of ASP, AAT and AEL engines, unbolt and remove the crankcase ventilation duct at the bottom of the block. Expand the circlip with cirrip pliers and remove the cirrip on the strainer on the pick-up tube of the oil, then knock the tabs on the lockplate in with a screwdriver. Removal of the tube and gasket or O-ring: Unscrew the bolts of the oil pickup tube support bracket on the crankcase, unbolt the flange of the oil pump and reclaim the lockplate. The second step is to remove the mounting bolts and withdraw the oil pump on the crankshaft and cylinder block, retaining the gasket. To check, loosen countersunk screws holding the pump cover on and remove the cover exposing the gears, indicating the side of the gears which faces the engine when needed. Unscrew the pressure relief valve plug together with its parts, thoroughly clean all the parts and examine them to determine wear or damage. Prise out the oil seal of the front of the pump carefully, oil the lip of the new one, and tap it in. Install the pump again by attaching the gears and cover making sure the slotted end of the inner gear in contact to the crankshaft and inserting the gaps between the gears with oil before tightening the cover screws. Install the parts of the pressure relief valve again and screw the plug tight. To replace, refit, put a new gasket over the dowels in the front of the cylinder block, find the oil pump making sure that the inner gear connects to the crankshaft and position the bolts, tighten them in a diagonal manner to required torque. Install a new pickup tube gasket or O-ring, tighten the bolts and install the strainer with the circlip. Lastly, re-connect the crankcase ventilation duct and sump, timing belt and sprocket.
