How to remove and inspect the gearbox and flywheel/driveplate for 5-cylinder petrol engines on 1994 Audi 100?

In order to strip the gearbox of manual models, pull the gearbox and clutch out; in automatic models pull the transmission out. Unscrew bolts in flywheel/ driveplate when in stationary position. Check wear (particularly starter ring gear). In case damaged replace the driveplate. Refitting is the process of reversing removal, and consists of applying locking fluid on newly added bolts.
