1992 Audi 100 Drive Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What information pertains to the Drive Belt used on 1992 Audi 100?
A: This fact relates to a ribbed belt of engine 1Z and AHU. The auxiliary drivebelt may require some type of covers to be removed in order to gain access to the device. In these engines, the primary V belt is used to move the coolant pump and power steering pump and a ribbed belt is used to move the alternator and NC compressor at the front of the crankshaft. One should also look at the V-belt to identify any damage or wear such as cuts, abrasions, fraying, and cracking that can be facilitated by using a mirror and a torch and turning the engine using a spanner on the crankshaft pulley to see all parts of the belt. A drivebelt has to be tensioned, and to test this tension, the belt must be pushed halfway between the run length pulleys, and it must bounce off as per the stated figures. In case adjustment is necessary, the lock nut and mounting bolts are to be tightened, and the adjustment rack bolt is to be turned to get the appropriate tension, and the mounting bolts and lock nut tightened. When renewing a belt, the mounting bolts are to be loosened and the adjustment backed off until the belt is removable, and then the new belt can be installed and the adjustment made.
