1991 Audi 100 Engine Mount Parts and Q&A
Q: How to inspect and replace the engine mount rubbers and support components for 5-cylinder diesel engines on 1991 Audi 100?
A: In order to inspect the vehicle, stand the front higher and firmly hold it on axle stands and then remove the undershield. Inspect mounting rubbers, whether they are cracks, hardened or split away, and change them in case of any damage. Make sure that all the fasteners are firmly tightened, and with the help of a torque wrench. Determine the mounting wear by trying to lift the mounting taking great care not to leave the screwdriver/crowbar on the mounting but against the engine/transmission itself to verify there is no free play therein; this cannot be done, have an assistant move the engine/transmission and observe the mounting. Although some free play is not a concern, excessive wear should become obvious and in this case ensure that the fasteners are tight before any worn component is replaced. To perform renewal, use the handbrake, lift the front part of the vehicle and place it on axle stands. The weight of the engine should be supported using a hoist. In order to detach the right-hand mount, unscrew the heat shield and remove the nuts. Unscrew the nut at the top, lift the engine, and loosen the screws that hold the engine to the bracket. To support the front torque with the help of the mounting, unscrew the bolts to release the bracket, which is attached to the subframe, and unscrew the support to the cylinder block. Lastly, install the new mounting by reversing the uninstallation process.
