How to replace the Hood Latch, Hood Release Cable and Lift Support on Audi A4?

To change the latch, first unlock the hood and then loosen the fasteners on the rear side of the latch, and unplug the electrical connector, and unscrew the assembly of the latch. Then unscrew the retaining clip and loosen the cable with the latch assembly by bending the end of the cable retaining clip backwards and removing the frontside fasteners and latch itself. In case of the cable one should elevate the vehicle and place it on jackstands and remove the inner fender liner on the driver and also the knee bolster. Unassemble the cable case and the bracket and de-latch the cable end in the engine compartment. Located in the car, take out the hood release handle mount fasteners and pull off the hood cable. Install a wire or a string on the end of the old cable in the engine compartment, and then push the cable through the cowl and into the passenger compartment. Install the string or the wire to the new cable and then pull it inside the cowl to the engine compartment by making sure that all cable retaining clips are maintained in their original positions. With the support strut, open the hood and support and secure it carefully, and then use a small screw driver to raise the retaining springs at each end of the support strut to loosen it off the vehicle. Both the cable and support strut are installed in the opposite sequence of their removal.
