Audi A4 Hood

The Hood of the Audi A4 safeguards important engine components and keeps the front face of the sedan clean and well defined. The Hood is mounted on durable hinges, making it easy to open and close for convenient access, but it closes effectively against road debris and weather. To the Audi driver, it also adds to crash safety since its crumple zones will cushion the impact before it reaches the block. Through the generations of Audi compact executive, two primary types of Hood have appeared, the classical stamped steel panel and a lighter skin of aluminum or fiberglass to achieve weight reduction. Both of these styles are attached to the same latching system, though the latter lightweight style helps the Audi save fuel and minimize front end diving during sudden braking. When the paint is marred with dents and rust, owners tend to choose a new Hood, which will immediately give the car the clean look of the factory that makes an Audi shine in traffic. Whichever version optimally suits your A4, there is no need to worry about panel gaps as they are correctly kept so that the grille lines are smooth and the safety latch performs as it should. It has a paintable surface that allows owners to match any factory color, with internal bracing keeping it in shape at highway speed and restraining vibration. The front edge has a strengthened catch that engages a secondary hook, which provides a backup in the event that the main latch loosens. The panel is constructed of corrosion resistant metal or composite to last for years of everyday commuting and long road trips.

Audi A4 Hood Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How should the hood be removed and installed safely and correctly on Audi A4?
    A:
The hood is awkward to remove and install, so at least two people should perform this procedure. Begin by covering the cowl area of the body and the Fenders with blankets or pads. Remove the wiper washer cover, disconnect the windshield washer hose and electrical connector, and take out the spray nozzle assembly. Next, slide the locking tab to the left to remove the harness cover from the Hood Hinge, then disconnect the electrical harness. Make alignment marks around the hinge plates using a permanent marker to ensure proper installation. Have an assistant support the hood while detaching the upper end of the hood support strut. Remove the hinge-to-hood bolts and lift off the hood, supporting it with your shoulder during this process. For installation, reverse the removal steps. To adjust the hood, loosen the nuts and move it in relation to the hinge plates for fore-and-aft and side-to-side alignment, tightening the hinge nuts afterward and carefully lowering the hood to check the alignment. Adjust the hood bumpers by turning them in or out to ensure the hood is flush with the fenders when closed. The safety latch assembly can also be adjusted up-and-down and side-to-side after loosening the nuts, and the buffer stops on each side of the radiator support can be adjusted by screwing them in or out.
