When working on FWD, the first thing is to disconnect the cable on the negative battery terminal and release the pressure on the fuel system. To check the fuel pump module inspection cover, clear off parts according to the model: Sedan and Cabriolet: removable parts include the luggage compartment carpet and the right backrest (fold forward with need); Avant: the left side luggage compartment trim panel, the left seat back, and the floor covering. Then, loosen the screws of the fuel pump module access cover and the cover, being careful about Fuel Pump Control Module being attached on the underside, on 2006 and subsequent models. Unscrew the electrical connector and lines of fuel pump module, label them to prevent confusion. Install appropriate tools to remove the fuel pump module lock ring (according to it being plastic or metal) and then unscrew the lock ring and gently draw the fuel pump module into the air. In case of the replacement with the suction jet pump, the latter must be disconnected with the fuel pump module and installed accordingly. To change the fuel pump module or fuel level sensor, remove assembly out of tank, checking the flange seal on the assembly. To disconnect the fuel level sensor, cut its electrical connector and push the lock tabs and pull the sensor itself out. Make sure the locking tabs fit into the place when installing, and can not be disassembled any more. In the case of AWD cars, the first steps are similar, and then the rear seat bench and the right fuel pump module access cover are removed. Unscrew the lock ring loosely, unscrew and disconnect the electrical connectors and the fuel supply line. Unscrew the flange and remove the electrical connectors and turn the fuel pump module to take it out of the baffle housing. On fuel level sensors, it is important to note that on AWD models we have two sensors with the tank compartments of the car. In the case of the right fuel level sensor, unlock the locking flange, disconnect it and pull it out with care, taking care not to break the float arm. In the case of the left fuel level sensor, the following steps are to be repeated with the only difference that the required parts are disconnected and the sensor is removed out of the tank carefully. Lastly, in the case of the suction jet pump, loosen the locking flange of the fuel pump module, disconnect the suction jet pipe lines and loosen the fuel level sensor and then pull the suction jet pump out of the access hole with the goal of ensuring adequate installation when reassembling.
