How to remove and inspect the air filter box and its components on Audi A4?

Remove the air filter box cover, if equipped, and detach the fresh air intake duct from the air filter box by disconnecting the rear part from the box and separating it from the front part. For the front part, remove the two screws and pull it out. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Mass Air Flow/Intake Air Temperature sensor, then loosen the clamps securing the air intake duct to the air filter box and detach the duct. Remove the mounting fastener that secures the air filter box to the right inner fender. On some models, the air filter box can now be removed, while on others, it may be secured by additional fasteners inside the lower part of the box. If it feels secured, remove the box cover and filter element, then take out the fasteners from the lower part and remove the box. Inspect the condition of the rubber grommet for the filter box locator pin while the box is out, and before reassembling and installing, thoroughly blow out all parts of the box with compressed air. Installation is the reverse of removal.
