- Q: How to lower the subframe and ensuring correct front wheel alignment with the Sway Bar on Audi A3?A:During this procedure, the subframe must be lowered, requiring Audi subframe locating pins (T10096) or similar to ensure correct front wheel alignment. All self-locking nuts and bolts disturbed on removal must be renewed. Begin by applying the handbrake, jacking up the front of the vehicle, and supporting it on axle stands. Remove both front roadwheels and the engine compartment undertray. Inside the car, undo the nuts and remove the trim beneath the foot pedals to access the steering column universal joint, then unscrew the clamp bolt and pull the universal joint from the steering gear pinion. The sway bar can be removed with or without the side links by unscrewing the nuts securing the links to the struts or sway bar as needed. Working on each side, unscrew the front suspension lower balljoint-to-lower arm retaining nuts and disconnect the track rod ends. Unscrew the bolts securing the sway bar clamps to the subframe, marking the sway bar for correct refitting. Remove the engine/transmission rear mounting bolts from the transmission. Support the subframe with a trolley jack and block of wood, marking its position if not using the special locating pins.
