- Q: How to remove and refit a steering wheel on Audi A3?A:To remove the steering wheel, first set the front wheels straight ahead and release the steering lock by inserting the ignition key. Disconnect the battery negative lead and position it away from the terminal. Adjust the Steering Column to its highest position, extend it into the passenger compartment as far as possible, and lock it. Remove the driver's airbag, then use a multi-spline socket to unscrew and remove the retaining bolt while holding the steering wheel stationary; this bolt can be reused up to five times, after which it must be replaced, and it is advisable to mark the nut with a center punch to track the number of times it has been unscrewed. Check if the steering wheel is marked in relation to the column; if not, mark them with a dab of paint, then ease the steering wheel from the column splines by rocking it side-to-side. For refitting, locate the steering wheel on the column splines, ensuring the previously made marks are aligned, then refit the retaining bolt and tighten it to the specified torque while holding the steering wheel stationary.
