First, take off the plastic cover in front of radiator on the five-cylinder engine models and next disconnect the battery negative lead. The second step is to loosen the
Alternator pivot and adjustment bolts and swing the alternator to the engine. In models with air conditioning and power steering, loosen the drivebelts of air conditioning and power steering and loosen the alternator drivebelt drivebelt before loosening the alternator drivebelt. Take off the old drivebelt off the pulleys and install the new drivebelt on the pulleys. Tensioning of drivebelt can be done in two ways, the first method is to turn the tensioner rack nut to push the alternator away on the engine until the deflection of the drivebelt halfway between the two pulleys is 2.0 mm (0.08 in) when a tight hand is applied or 5.0 mm (0.20 in) when refitting a used drivebelt. Insert the tensioner rack nut, tighten the adjustment bolt, the pivot and link bolts. The second technique needs a torque wrench; first, it is necessary to make sure that the pivot bolt is loose and the alternator is free to move. Tighten the 9.0 ± 1.0 Nm (6.6 ± 0.7 lbf ft) tensioner rack nut with the torque wrench this serves as the reference point of the alternator in relation to the adjustment link. Lastly, screw the pivot bolt and ensure that the rack nut is not displaced and use an open ended spanner to adjust the nut and then use a tightening bolt and in case needed the link bolt.
