  Q: How to remove and refit the window regulator and glass on Audi 100?

  To de-enter the window regulator, open the window about half way, and remove the window frame assembly on the door. In the case of early models, detach and remove the screws that join the regulator assembly to the door panel. In later models, it is best to drill off the heads of the pop rivets holding the regulator on, and then to replace them with new pop rivets. Identify the location of the outer washer on the glass mounting, shuffle off the retaining clip of the window glass to the regulator slide and remove the outer washer. Unscrew the regulator out of the window glass and put the window glass up to the top, clearing the regulator; and taping the regulator to the frame, unless it clears up by itself. Take the inner washer out of the regulator slide and get the regulator assembly out of the position. To refit, screw the regulator assembly to the door frame, screw in the inner washer to the regulator slide pin, screw the pin in the window glass holder hole, and screw the outer washer, matching up the previous marks and fix the glass in by fitting it in the retaining clip. To early models, screw the regulator that holds the bolts to the regulator to the recommended torque, and to the current models, to fit the regulator into the panel and to place all new rivets, making sure that they are well seated and the rivet gun is utilized. Lastly, replace the window frame to the door. To extract the window glass, have the regulator out, it can be done but it is difficult with the regulator in place, and as a result, the glass is more likely to break. To take out the window glass from the frame, take off the stopper out of the bottom of the window guide and slide the window glass downwards out of the frame and the locating pins of the window glass off of the guides. In refitting, position the locating pins in line with the guides of the windows, slide the glass into the frame and ensure that it slides in its guides without any problems and refit the stopper to the bottom of the corresponding guide and then re-fits the regulator.
