- Q: How to drain the cooling system and remove the water pump on 1987 Audi 4000?A: Drain the cooling system, then for four-cylinder engines, remove the alternator and drivebelt, disconnect hoses from the water pump housing, and unbolt the water pump assembly. For five-cylinder engines, remove the power steering pump, withdraw the timing cover, and ensure the engine is at TDC for No 1 cylinder. Refitting is a reversal of removal.
