Several slightly different style gear shift knobs are used, but all are removed in the same manner. With a firm grip, grasp the trim/locking sleeve and pull down on the shaft. Pull the release button out of the shift knob as far as possible and lock in place with a wire clip in the opening on top. While holding the button out, pull up on the knob to remove it from the shaft. If the release button slips back into the knob, use a pick tool to pull the button out and lock in place with a wire clip. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting to install the trim/locking sleeve onto the shaft, pull the release button out to install the knob, ensure the installed position has the button pointing to the driver, slide the knob onto the shaft and move around to engage the mechanism, and when the knob is felt to engage the mechanism, push down fully onto the shaft. While holding the knob down, grasp the trim/locking sleeve, slide up, and lock onto the knob.
