  The oil pressure warning system may sometimes show a fault while functioning properly; you should check the oil pressure switch on the oil filter bracket. To test, unplug wire from oil pressure switch & leave it disconnected, remove switch, and thread it into tester. The next step requires inserting the hose into the hole where the switch was located and connecting the tester's ground wire to an excellent ground. To check the oil pressure switch, connect a test light from battery positive to oil pressure switch terminal. The light should remain off; if so, the oil pressure switch is OK. Start the engine and let it warm up disregarding the oil pressure light during this test. After the radiator fan has cycled once, raise engine speed until the test light comes on. Observe the pressure gauge to see that the light comes on at the specified value, if not the switch is defective and must be replaced. The switch body will be color-coded and will have a pressure rating imprinted to identify when the switch is a factory-installed original equipment replacement switch. Make sure to keep that oil pressure tester hooked up and run the engine at various speeds. Make note of the readings on the pressure gauge in the cab and compare them to the specifications. If out of spec, there's likely something wrong with the Oil Pump or other internal parts. Also note that if the oil pressure gets excessive, it indicates a possible problem with the high-pressure relief valve. To prevent affecting oil pressures, determine that the engine has a sufficient quantity of fresh oil of the required viscosity correct before repairs. High oil pressure can cause faulty hydraulic valve lifters and oil seal or filter leakage problem. Post-testing, remove the test light and tester. Reinstall the oil pressure switch and its wiring. If the oil pressure switch seal is leaking, install a new sealing washer. This is held captive on the switch and must be cut off. New sealing rings are available from authorized Audi parts dealers or aftermarket parts specialists.
