Disconnect the battery ground cable, raise the car and support it safely, then remove the lower engine cover. Remove the air cleaner duct mounting screws at the lock carrier and take out the air duct. Place the lock carrier in the service position. For a 2.7 liter turbocharged engine, loosen the right intercooler hose clamps and remove the hose. For automatic transmission, loosen the ATF lines and AC lines by loosening their respective bolts, then remove the line by taking out the bolts and hose clamp. For manual transmission, remove the A/C refrigerant lines mounting bracket above the torque arm, cut wire-ties, and unlatch tabs. Unhook the
Starter and alternator wires from the bracket, then remove the engine accessory belt, marking the direction of rotation if it is to be reused. Working under the right front of the engine, loosen the clamp and remove the cooling air duct from the alternator. At the rear of the alternator, detach the connectors from the alternator posts. Loosen and remove the alternator mounting fasteners, counterholding the nut to remove the top bolt and loosening the lower bolt. Remove the alternator from below, carefully moving the A/C refrigerant lines and other hoses and wires aside. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that if reusing the accessory belt, it is installed in the previously marked direction, and check the belt ribs to ensure they fit the pulleys correctly.
