How to remove and install a steering wheel with an Air Bag Clockspring on Audi A4?

To take off the steering wheel, it is necessary to park the vehicle straight and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn off the airbag system, but then, with a small screwdriver, pry up the cover on the fasteners and then put the two Torx mounting fasteners back out of the airbag module on one side of the steering wheel or the other side of the steering wheel, as needed. Take the airbag module and the horn electrical connectors out by lifting the center locking part of each. Place the module aside with airbag side up. Unscrew any other electrical connections that may be required to be taken off and then remove the steering wheel bolt with a 12 mm, 12-point spline-drive bit. Unless there are any alignment marks, mark the alignment to the steering shaft with the steering wheel. Take the steering wheel off the shaft keeping a note of the way any electrical wire harness is run and it may be tight so tap it in passing close to the centre, or twist it as you pull it upwards, without hammering the shaft. When it is necessary to remove the clockspring, remove the steering column covers, disconnect the electrical connector, disengage the clockspring retaining clips and remove it off the steering column without it rotating. In the case of steering angle sensor, peel off the steering column covers and steering column switch assembly and then loosen the sensor connection with the switch. Installation: The installation is not a hard task because the airbag clockspring is positioned, and the clip fasteners should be locked before the steering wheel is secured to the shaft, the index marks matched and the wiring harnesses are laid. Install new steering wheel bolt, tighten it, and connect the electrical connector of horn and airbag module and position the airbag module on the steering wheel and fasten it with torx mounting fasteners.
