How to remove and install the steering column on Audi A4?

In order to take out the steering column, park the car so that the wheels face forward and in cars with an automatic transmission, the lever should be in the PARK position. Unplug the cable of the negative battery and disable the airbag system. The steering column cover has to be removed, and this might involve the mounting fastener of the tilt lever being removed. To install, insert the column and fit the U-joint so as to engage with the input shaft of the steering gear, and fit the pinch bolt loosely. Install the steering column mounting fittings without screwing them yet and remove the wire. In case new steering column had been applied, get rid of any protective materials applied during transit. Installation should be finished by reversing the steps used in removal, and when installing the steering wheel, it is important to position the airbag clockspring in the middle and then the steering wheel bolt should be tightened to the required torque. The column mounting bolts should then be tightened and the shift interlock cable should be reconnected and finally the U- joint pinch bolt has to be tightened after the steering column mounting fasteners are secured.
