Audi A4 Ignition Switch

The Audi A4 Ignition Switch is the switch that opens the door to the electrical and engine processes that allow the driver to switch off and switch on the car with one turn or press and the car will move. The Ignition Switch in most contemporary Audi models is the initial point of contact between the inputs of the driver and the engine firing, and is the point where current is conducted to parts (stereo, windows, etc.), to the starter solenoid, and allows the electronic control unit to pulse fuel and spark only after the immobiliser has verified the transponder of the fob. In older Audi sedans, a metal key was inserted into a steering column tumbler with matching cuts unlocking a mechanical lock and closing internal contacts, but new Audi models replace it with a dashboard push button that still conceals the same contacts but awaits a response wirelessly before it closes the circuit. Although the change in key-to-button style is offset by a new design of Ignition Switch that is based on plug-and-play construction, which is designed to fit a specific chassis, the replacement of the old module with the new one is seldom associated with the need to work with a toolkit to a great extent. Regardless of the installed style, interior power loss, starter shut-off, or any combination thereof comes down to this minuscule component to ensure that every Audi driver is aware of the telltale symptoms of an Ignition Switch that is going dead and replace it before it becomes too late as a way of ensuring an A4 is reliable.

Audi A4 Ignition Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch on Audi A4?
    A:
The ignition switch which is found under steering column, with switch on the left and key lock cylinder on the right is a cast-metal housing, ignition lock cylinder, and an electrical component, called switch device. Start by removing the cable of the negative post of the battery and take off the steering column covers and the steering column switch assembly. In the case of automatic transmissions in the model, it is necessary to ensure that the shift linkage is in Park before you can proceed. Insert the key into the lock and switch it to the ON position, and then will have to release the retaining clip to take the park/lock cable out of the ignition switch. In case of a key lock cylinder, to take it out, leave the key in the "ON" position and position the access hole with the mark on the trim. The assembly can be pulled out using a straightened large paper clip, taking into consideration that the reader coil is embedded in the lock cylinder and cannot be removed independently of it. The installation of key lock cylinder is done in the same manner as in the "ON" position, just insert it, until it clips as compared to the paper clip, switch the key to the Lock position and it is removed. In the case of the ignition switch, unscrew the electrical connector of large size on the left hand, scrape the locking coating out of the switch retaining screw heads and loosen the screws without their removal, then withdraw the switch out of the ignition assembly. The method to solve the lock housing is to loosen the steering column mounting bolts and move the column downwards ensuring that the mounting brackets are not damaged. To remove the housing cut slots into the shear bolt heads or drill them out and make sure the installation is opposite to the removal tightening the new shear bolts until the heads break off.
