Audi A3 Hood

The Audi A3 Hood protects the engine bay from exposure to rough weather, besides adding a sleek profile to the car which directs air smoothly over the windscreen. It is easily lifted at the back as the owners can easily access filters, belts, and other servicing points whenever they are required. Hood designs within the A3 line have been fabricated in a variety of materials, each with a desired balance between durability, weight and crash safety. Older stamped steel designs have the benefit of robustness and known crumple areas, whereas newer designs can replace such mass with a lighter aluminum skin to allow easier handling and fuel efficiency. Some limited editions use fiberglass with a gelcoat finish to create the light option and one that comes with a pre-prepared surface. Whichever material is applied, each Hood is designed to run with the grille and fender sections, maintaining the distinct Audi pose. Replacement pieces must also be of the identical model year so as to ensure correct panel gaps, the accurate location of the latches, and so that the Audi paint codes are in line with the other panels around it. The buyers have options of purchasing factory primer to fit custom colors or using gelcoat if the objective is reducing weight. The spare parts will cost with the same labor charges when installed, which compares to the average budgets of owning an Audi. The Hood offers protection, style, and aerodynamic gain, thus continuing to be a small but very necessary part of any modern Audi compact.

Audi A3 Hood Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and refit a hood on Audi A3?
    A:
To take off the hood, open it and draw an outline of where each hinge is with a pencil or a felt tip pen so that it can be used as a guide when replacing the hood. The next step is to get help to assist in lifting the hood, loosen the locking clip and unconnect the gas support strut to the ball joint making sure to unconnect the strut retaining clip. Then unscrew the securing nuts, and lift the hood off, taking great care, and storing. Check the hinges by looking at wear and free play at the pivots, replacing them where needed. The hinge is fixed by the use of two bolts, so note where they are, unscrew the bolts, and take the hinges out of the car. To refit, with help, put on the hood and superficially screw in the retaining bolts, by matching the hinges with the marks made before, and finally fastening the nuts with a screw. Install the gas strut again but in reverse sequence and close the hood after which align it with the other panels. In case of misalignment, it is possible to unscrew the hinge nuts to adjust the hinge followed by tightening of hinge nuts so that the hood fixes and frees well.
