- Q: How to remove and refit an alternator for Bosch and Valeo types on Audi A3?A:To remove the alternator, first take it off and place it on a clean work surface with the pulley facing down. For the Bosch type, undo the screw and two retaining nuts to lift away the outer plastic cover, then unscrew the three securing screws to remove the voltage regulator, followed by the brush holder/regulator. For the Valeo type, prize off the spring clips to remove the outer plastic cover, then undo the two screws and a single nut to take out the voltage regulator, and slide off the brush cover by depressing the lugs on each side. During inspection, measure the free length of the brush contacts and check against the specifications; if the brushes are worn below the minimum limit, the module should be renewed.
