Access to the rear of the right-hand headlamp unit is gained by removing the air cleaner inlet hose, while for the left-hand unit on 90 models, the radiator upper cover must be removed. To remove a bulb on 80 models, turn the rear plastic cover anti-clockwise, remove it, and then pull the wiring plug from the bulb terminals. On 90 models, release the spring clip and remove the rear plastic cover before disconnecting the wiring plug from the bulb terminals. The bulb can be removed by releasing the spring clip. If the bulb is to be re-used, avoid touching the glass with bare fingers; if touched, clean it with methylated spirit. To remove the headlamp, first take off the washer components if fitted, and disconnect any relevant wiring for electric beam adjustment systems. On 80 models, disconnect the wiring plug(s) from the rear of the headlamp, potentially removing the direction indicator lamp first, then unscrew the upper and lower mounting screws to withdraw the headlight. For better access, the narrow trim strip may be removed from under the headlamp. On 90 models, disconnect the wiring plug from the rear, unscrew the upper and lower mounting screws, and withdraw the headlamp forwards. If necessary, the lens may be removed by prising off the spring clips with a screwdriver. Refitting is a reversal of removal; when fitting the headlamp, tighten the upper mounting screws first, then the lower screws, and adjust the headlamp as needed. When fitting the bulb, ensure the centre terminal is positioned at the top for proper engagement of the bulb rim location lugs, and if the plastic cover is marked 'Oben', it should be uppermost when fitted.
